Well the season is under way now and
hopefully you have had a few
successful finishes already this year. The Regional championships
as well are under way. The Duathlon and Sprint championships were
both in NM. As I write this, the Club and Olympic distance
championships are fast approaching and might even been done by the
time you are reading this.
The Youth championships will be the Iron-kids in Louisville, CO, and
then the last championships will be the College Championships in
Loveland, CO (Sept). The National Club Championship will be in our
region at the
it filled to capacity earlier than ever, reaching its 1500
competitor limit in late June. This is 3 weeks earlier than last
year, and is on top of the cancellation of the duathlon. It is a
testament that the sport continues to grow in the Rocky Mountain
Region. Clubs from
National Club Championships in several categories. Top pros
including Tim, Tony, and Nicole DeBoom, Cameron Widoff, Kelly
Handel, and Conrad Stoltz will be gunning for the $17,500 in prize
money in the Nokia Pro Challenge. Best of all over $30,000 will be
raised for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. For more
information go to www.boulderpeak.com
Work is under way for the club scoring of the regional club
championship, so be sure your membership in a club is current and
that your club is registered with the national office so you and
your club may be eligible for awards.

Race notes:
Palmer Lake Triathlon July 6, 2003 Update:
Due to venue changes, we have decided to do a brief update on the
status of this year's triathlon to all present and 2002 triathlon
registrants. Due to early season drought conditions, we have moved
the location of the triathlon to Woodmoor Country Club in Monument.
The swim will now take place in the Country Club's Indoor and
Outdoor Pools with 5 seconds between each athlete. Starting times
will be based on swim time. The bike Course will be very similar to
the 2002 and 2001 courses with it just starting and ending at the
Country Club on
up and down hills on it on paved road shoulders in a residential
area. The web site for the triathlon

Looking forward, we hope to see everyone back this year at this
exciting venue! The proceeds from the race will be going to
worthwhile charities such as the YMCA,
Recreation Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and USA Triathlon.
Please email me at Pbergsten@benchmarkmanagement.com with any
questions.
USAT Senior Task Force: Look for an article next quarter from Ken
Whitney and Jose Valdes on this area of growth for USAT.
Regional Athletic Development Coordinator for Juniors – Rocky
Mountain Region (Matt Eagan who can be reached at
matt@totaltrainer.com)
What I'd like to see for our region in 2004 for juniors are the
following:
1) A National Junior Draft Legal Race held in our region
2) 2-3 Regional Junior Draft Legal Races
3) The creation of a Regional Junior Team that would
race at the
Worlds Qualifier. The team would be decided by the results from the
regional races. Ideally, we could get some fundraising together
from the region so that we can field and send a team to the Worlds
qualifier without too much cost for the athletes. A couple of
regions are already doing this.
4) A regional camp for Juniors
that would last 5-7 days.
PC race: Expect some of the top Physically Challenged athletes in
the world to compete at the RattleSnake Tri #2 on July 13th.
