Attendees: Larry Seidman, Penny Bergten, Kevin Bergten, Phil Hackbarth, Calling in Danny Fisher (New Mexico rep), Jo Garuccio (Talent ID coordinator, Utah)

1.Discussed if we should reimburse Regional championships. Motion by Rob Ladewig to reimburse race directors for 2002 regional championship $100.00. Second by Penny. Motion passed.

2. Awarded Las Vegas NM, the 2002 regional Olympic/International distance championship. Danny said he could possibly take on other types of regional championships such as club, and Clydesdale.

  1. Voted on Sprint Distance championship, between submitted bids of Cheyenne Mountain, and Milkman. Cheyenne Mountain selected.

4. Phil Fratesi who does the IronKids, is planning on a race in either Louisville CO, or Colorado Springs CO, and was awarded the Youth regional championship.

5. Off-road, no bids submitted, contacted Dave Nichols of xterra keystone, he might be interested. Asked Ben Blouse of Ridgeway, haven’t gotten a reply. A third possibility is Mark Warner of Hogi Yogi.

  1. Duathlon: no bids submitted will ask Paul K of Boulder Peak
  2. Long: Will ask Jim Henderson of Desert Sun
  3. Ultra: Can ask Boulder 5430.
  4. Club championships, will ask Jose if there are requirements for 2002, on distances, and dates.
  5. Financial report given by Rob Ladewig, Treasurer. We have a current balance of $6,130.85, with a few upcoming payments such as the phone bill for this meeting, the web site renewal, and possible travel reimbursements.
  6. Discussed Rob Ladewig’s options for reimbursing board members travel expenses to sanctioned events. It was suggested to possibly reimburse race officials rather than board members. No motion was decided and Rob will re-evaluate the options.
  7. Regional Rankings 2001: Larry has started the worksheet that contains currently only 5 races. Will keep working on this and will also need to contact race directors for more results. Plan is to have it done first quarter of 2002.
  8. Regional rankings awards 2001. It was decided that Carol Whipple’s ideas of clothing for regional rankings awards is a good idea but too expensive. Could we do shorts, or caps or singlet?
  9. Report from Jo Garuccio, regional Talent Id, and athlete development coordinator. Willing to possibly put on a clinic and or time trial in Utah during 2002, If that works then maybe could do one in Colorado. Will contact other regions to get more information.
  10. Report from New Mexico by Danny Fisher. The Sommer sports series was trying to find a possible site for a race near Alby but there is no lake so it won’t happen.
  11. Motion to reimburse Larry $0.28 per mile for his trip to Ridgeway to help with the off-road regional championship, passed.

17. Next meeting – Try to get more people involved. At the Hoff/Leigh winter race Feb 16 in Colorado Springs, before the race awards are presented on the pool deck bleachers. Probably will not be able to get a speakerphone on the pool deck. It will be a meeting to introduce current board members that are present, ask for more involvement from people and present 2001 regional ranking awards. We are supposed to have board of director elections early in the year and would like to have them as part of the meeting but will not if we don’t get the speakerphone.
